Driving Directions from Lebanon Pa.:
Route 72 North through Lickdale then the Swatara Gap to Rt 443 North.
Turn left on Gold Mine Road, then 2.8 miles to trail parking area on the left.

Gold Mine Road was constructed in the 1930s as a WPA project. It was known as Pennsylvania's Skyline Drive. Mining companies opposed the road. They thought that it would encourage wildcat mining.

Anthracite coal is called black gold because it is hard, shiny and valuable.
